Bullet Hell Games

"Vampire Survivors" began in 2021 as a browser game on the platform "itch.io" and later entered Early Access on Steam. The game is primarily categorized as a Roguelite, a genre we have a separate article for. LINK. However, the game can also be considered a type of Bullet Hell, as the player essentially becomes the Bullet Hell. Waves of enemies approach the player, which can be defeated using projectiles. The player character gains experience points and can purchase upgrades. Eventually, the character has so many different shots and abilities that the screen becomes filled with projectiles.

In 2017, the shoot 'em up "Cuphead" made a huge splash. The player takes on the role of the titular Cuphead, a Disneyesque character with a cup for a head. Especially in the boss fights, which make up a large part of the game, numerous projectiles fill the air. The game is known for its difficulty, as the player doesn't have many lives, and evading attacks becomes increasingly difficult. "Cuphead" impressed especially with its hand-animated art style and even received its own Netflix series in 2022.

Bullet Hell games offer a colorful variety of different themes. These games often don't have complex controls, but they impress with the sensory overload created by the numerous projectiles. Every game enthusiast should try a Bullet Hell game at least once.
